If MPs want to help women then they can make access to abortion and contraception more efficient. Who has the authority over my body – some geezer in the House of Commons? Or me and my doctor? Like my mother, I feel no shame and I refute this language of “care”. You want a definition of a nanny state? How about one that thinks it’s OK to poke around in your uterus?

Because if I ever get pregnant and want/need an abortion, I don’t want to have to sit with some pro-life misogynist telling me about how great babies are and how I shouldn’t kill mine. Because abortion clinics can tell me everything I’d need to know with impartiality and no hidden agenda. Because if I want/need an abortion, I should fucking well get it and not have to justify that to somebody who believes my foetus’ ‘life’ is more important than my own.

So, basically, what Cameron is saying is “no, no! It’s not my fault! It’s these stupid, uneducated, unemployed, violent, ill-bred, poor people! How dare they ransack our streets? It’s got nothing to do with politics, nothing to do with how I cut their social funding, cut their benefits, ignore their deprivation and poverty. They’re just scum!”
What a piece of Tory shit. I don’t deny that there are opportunistic arseholes out there and they played parts in these riots, but to completely ignore and deny that politics, his politics, had anything to do with them is the typically uninformed, ignorant, arrogant, selfish attitude of a Etonian Tory scumbag.
To quote something he did literally say:
”This is not about poverty, it’s about culture. A culture that glorifies violence, shows disrespect to authority, and says everything about rights but nothing about responsibilities.”
Yes, David, yes, it’s about a culture you’ve created with your pandering to the City and your complete lack of giving a shit about people who can’t afford to bail out banks, who can’t afford to pay for education, who can’t goddamn afford any of the things that you, with your white, middle-class upbringing, took for granted. You’ve just cut the funding to the little they did have by as much as 75%. If we disrespect authority, maybe you should take a look at that authority, your authority, and have a think about whether or not it’s actually worth respecting. My suspicion is that it’s not. At all. Respect is a two-way street, sir; have a think about that.

Civil disturbances never have a single, simple meaning. When the Bastille was being stormed the thieves of Paris doubtless took advantage of the mayhem to rob houses and waylay unlucky revolutionaries. Sometimes the thieves were revolutionaries. Sometimes the revolutionaries were thieves. And it is reckless to start making confident claims about events that are spread across the country and that have many different elements. In Britain over the past few days there have been clashes between the police and young people. Crowds have set buildings, cars and buses on fire. Shops have been looted and passersby have been attacked. Only a fool would announce what it all means.
We can dispense with some mistakes, though. It is wrong to say that the riots are apolitical…
